Patchouli Essential Oil Botanical name of the oil is Pogostemon cablin. Other names of the oil include patchouli and puchaput oil. Puchaput word is taken from Indian word ‘patch’ meaning green and ‘ilai’ meaning leaf. Patchouli essential oil is extracted from the young leaves which are dried first and fermented prior steam distillation. The oil is considered to improve with age and is considered effective in soothing rough, cracked and dehydrated skin and also treats acne, eczema, sores, ulcers and fungal infections.
